Story Introduction[]

Shima is deeply upset at his grandfather's passing, and sinks into the water after attempting to retrieve a photo of him. Rescued by a man, Shima confirms he would like him to stay then realizes he will need to transport a merman back to his house. Living and eating together, Shima finds himself getting used to Isaki. Waking in the night, Shima joins Isaki and shares details of his family. Isaki rejects his claims that he is lonely when he does not show the real him. Feeling better after speaking with Isaki, he takes him cycling to the moonlit beach. After resurfacing from the water, Isaki is upset that Shima is not on the beach, yet he had just went to retrieve a towel.

Whilst his classmates remarking how Shima seems happier at school, Isaki waits alone in the house and comments that he is late returning home. Shima continues to return home later as he spends time with friends and partake in extra circular activities, and Isaki wonders when he came to love Shima. Returning home, Shima finds that Isaki is gone and runs to the beach. When he considers Isaki, Shima feels it might be better not to chase him before he jumps into the sea anyway.

Whilst he is rescued and wants Isaki to come back, he says he cannot having become tired of living on land and Shima does not need him regardless. Advised to get a girlfriend, Shima replies does not need one having already found someone he really likes in Isaki.
